Degla Maadi is a suburb of Cairo, the capital city of Egypt. It is situated on high ground about 8 to 10 miles south of downtown Cairo. The residential area is located on the west bank of the Nile, bordering the El Matariya district.
Degla Maadi was established in the 1950s and has grown rapidly due to its proximity to Cairo. It is a well-to-do neighborhood with many villas, luxury apartment buildings, and large compounds. There are several schools, including the prestigious Maadi British International School, as well as several shopping malls such as Vivo Maadi and Mall of Arabia. There are also several sporting clubs and leisure facilities such as a golf course, tennis courts, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.
The area is mainly a residential neighbourhood but it is also popular among tourists and expatriates who come to enjoy its lively atmosphere. Visitors can explore the many tourist attractions in the area such as the ruins of the Roman fortress of Babylon, the Coptic Monastery of St. Mary, and the Maadi Grand Mosque. In addition, there are also a number of restaurants, cafes, and nightclubs in the area.
