A recent discovery in Moon Valley, New Cairo, Egypt has archaeologists and historians abuzz. The area has been identified as an ancient compound, containing several structures and artifacts of note. The most noteworthy discovery is a large mud-brick structure, believed to have been built in the Middle Kingdom period (2040-1782 BC). Archaeologists have also uncovered artifacts such as pottery, stone tools, and a number of stone statues. The site is believed to have been used for religious ceremonies or for the storage of goods. Further excavations are currently underway to learn more about the compound and its history.
